budget baby & toddler clothing

Old Navy
Old Navy isn't exactly known for its cutting edge fashions or high quality, but their baby clothes selection is surprisingly good. I probably bought half of my son's outfits here. One annoying thing about the site -- if your baby is between 6 - 18 months, you will have to browse the Newborn AND the Infant/Toddler sections of the site to see all offerings in that size range. Baby sizes 0-5T. Kids sizes 5-18.
Shipping: USA (including PO Boxes, APO/FPO & US Territories) only

American Apparel
Here's what I love about this store -- everything is SIMPLE and PLAIN -- no logos, no puppies, no duckies, no choo-choo trains, not even any patterns. This is the perfect place to go for a pair of plain cotton pants (My son has tons of their karate pants, which I absolutely love), a logo-free polo shirt or a solid-color t-shirt, onesie, baby gown, cap, bib, burp cloth, receiving blanket, etc.... Everything is manufactured in downtown L.A. and they even have some organic options. Sizes Newborn-12.
Free shipping on orders over $50.
Shipping: USA (including US Territories, no PO Boxes or APO/FPO) & International

Gap
The Gap always gets a bad rap for its uninspired fashions, but you can almost always find a few good basic pieces here, and the prices are pretty decent. Baby Gap sizes Newborn to 5 years. Gap Kids sizes 4-18.
Shipping: USA (including PO Boxes, APO/FPO & US Territories) only

The Children's Place
This mall-chain store has Gap-style fashions often at cheaper prices. While the girls' selection can sometimes border on tacky, their boys' selection is excellent. My sons practically lived in their newborn one-piece rompers (only sold in spring/summer). They were super convenient to get on and off. I also love their footie pajamas - unlike most pajamas, which have tons of awful snaps, these zip up in a cinch and are 100% cotton. Baby sizes 0-4T. Kids sizes 4-14.
Shipping: USA only (including US Territories and APO/FPO)

Gymboree
You'll find some decent picks for girls at this mall chain, but steer clear of the boys' department, which suffers from an overabundance of appliqued barnyard animals, race cars and other kiddie designs.
Shipping: USA only (including US Territories, PO Boxes and APO/FPO)

Crazy 8
This is Gymboree's budget store (kind of like what Old Navy is to the Gap). With a few exceptions (like this cute layered eyelet top), most of the stuff here is pretty fashion-challenged. Baby sizes 3 mo.-5 years. Kids sizes 4-14.
Shipping: USA only (including US Territories, PO Boxes and APO/FPO)

Target
Target's selection of Cherokee and Oshkosh clothing is usually worth a look, especially with so many styles going for $15 or less.

Alternative Apparel
Another tee shop like American Apparel, but this one has a much smaller selection. Best known for their burnout tees, which have that slubbed, vintage, thread bare look.
Free shipping on orders over $50.
Shipping: USA (no PO Boxes) & International (select countries)

Baby Soy - Ultra basic, minimalist styles made of eco-friendly soybean fiber -- a silky smooth, soft fabric that can be machine-washed and air-dried.

Basic Brilliance - Like American Apparel, this store carries refreshingly simple, solid-color styles in 100% cotton. Good for sporty basics including sweats, t-shirts, onesies, hoodies and pull-on pants. Newborn - Size 12.
Shipping: USA only

LL Bean - A great place to go for well-priced outerwear like jackets and snowsuits.

Lands End - I usually associate this store with elastic-waisted "mom" jeans and sweater vests for dad. Their children's selection is similarly fashion-challenged, but you can sometimes find good winter outerwear here as well as wardrobe basics.
